Training Seminars
The training program offers a few seminars in keeping with the practitioner-scholar approach. The Ethics and Crisis Intervention Seminars,Group Psychotherapy, Psychological Assessment, Personality Disorders, Women's Issues, Substance Abuse, Diversity, and Brief Therapy seminars are offered in five-week modules.
Ethics Seminar:
This seminar is designed to facilitate discussion of the ethical principles and standards especially as applied to dilemmas regarding real cases. Theoretical readings are assigned and hypothetical cases are also utilized to explore possible approaches for managing them in conjunction with ethical standards.
Expected Outcomes:

Clarified understanding of the APA's ethical principles and standards

Awareness and knowledge of Colorado statutes related to the mental health profession

Use of sound judgment in clarifying gray areas and in applying pertinent principles

Ready detection of situations that could lead to ethical infractions

Awareness of dual role relationships and accompanying behaviors that reduce the potential for exploitation
Brief Therapy Seminar:
This seminar is designed to familiarize the intern with several models of brief therapy, helping them to understand criteria for the selection of appropriate cases, the methods and techniques for each model studied, and applied sample case approaches.

Comfort in working with a variety of clinical issues through brief intervention
Group Psychotherapy Seminar:
This seminar provides a review of group leadership techniques and skills. It is designed to facilitate understanding of group processes and dynamics including the art of co-leadership.
Expected Outcomes:

Enhanced practical experience with running a group-logistics of screening, getting started, maintaining, and terminating groups

Increased familiarity with current related group psychotherapy theoretical readings and research

Identification of effective leadership styles and approaches
Crisis Intervention Seminar:
This seminar prepares the intern for helping to manage a variety of emergencies and crises. It focuses on some of the models and steps of psychological debriefing, and helps interns to identify the range of interventions that is appropriate for different traumatic incidents.
Expected Outcomes:

Familiarity with the assessment and planning process for conducting psychological debriefings

Ability to differentiate between therapy and crisis intervention

Familiarity with techniques to facilitate small and large group processing of traumatic events

Ability to effectively manage secondary stress
