When a document is converted to a PDF format from Word or PowerPoint it carries over specific labels, called: “tags”. They identify each component of the document such as: image, heading, graphics, paragraph, columns, and tables. The tags indicate these items as well as the order in which they will be read to the user of a screen reader or other assistive technology.
A Screen Reader will read the document at the exact order in which the tags are organized or the order of the panels. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will examine the document structure through the Order Panel instead of the Tag Panel.
