How to Use the Headings

This tutorial will help you utilize the true styles in Word. When creating a heading, if you simply change the font or enlarge the font size, the document will have no real structure and will not be accessible for a screen reader to interpret it. For this reason you need to use the headings options provided. Follow the simple steps:

Step 1. Open your Word document or start creating a new one.

Step 2.

If you use Word 2000-2003, click on the Heading drop-down menu next to the Font menu:

Step 3. Select the text you want to apply a heading to and choose the heading.
Note: If you need to export the document to PDF or to HTML and use it for your Blackboard course, it will retain the structure.

If you do not see the Heading option on your Microsoft Word, click on the Format button 

Step 4. Select Styles and Formatting option:
