Copying an assessment and setting a release criteria

The following tutorial will help you duplicate an assessment and set a selective release criteria for that assessment.

Step 1. Log in to Blackboard. Select the Build tab

Step 2.

Create a new assessment.

Step 3.

Give the assessment a unique name. In the template section, choose which test you wish to copy. A list of available assessments will be in a dropdown menu. Select the appropriate assessment. Make sure to save the assessment once you're finished.

Step 4.

Next, we'll need to edit the properties of the newly created assessment.

Step 5.

Make the necessary changes to the duration of the assessment, and any other attribute of the assessment you wish to change to accommodate the student(s) needs.

Step 6.

Also, make sure that you do not release the score for the newly created exam, otherwise every student in the class can see the newly created exam.

Step 7.

Next, setting a release criteria will allow you to only release this exam to a specific set of students.

Step 8.

Click Add Member Criteria button

Step 9.

Select which users you wish to have access to this assessment. Click the Save button once you're done.

Step 10.

Click the Save button once again.

Step 11.

To make the assessment visible to students, select Show Item.

Step 12.

You'll need to take the students you wish to take the modified exam out of the original exam. On the original exam, click the Add Release Criteria button, then Add Member Criteria.

Step 13.

Select the student(s) and make sure that the "Does not equal" bubble is checked. Click Save.

Step 14.

Click the Save button once again.

Step 15.

If you have a gradebook set up, you'll need to manually input grades for the students who took the modified exam. Click on the Teach tab and open gradebook. Click on the double-dash link that coresponds to the appropriate student and assessment

Step 16.

Change the score to what the student got on the modified exam. Make sure to save your work.
