Creating a Folder

A PDF version of the instructions: Creating a Folder (Acrobat Icon 29 KB)

If you would like to create a folder to organize content not provided by your course template, follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1.

Press the Build tab
The build screen now appears.

Step 2. Under the Designer Tools Menu, select the File Manager option.
Step 3.

Select the content folder
from the right hand menu. The content folder files appear. Initially, the template will provide you with a sample html file and sample folder containing another sample html file. Feel free to navigate through the sample folder and preview the sample documents to get feel for how you would like to set up the file structure for your course.

NOTE
: Good information architecture and file organization can save you a lot of time and effort when creating or updating your course. This template provides you a good starting point for organizing your content into logical and structured data schemas.

Step 4. Create your first module folder pressing the Create Folder button
located near the top right-hand portion of the content frame.
Step 5.

The Create Folder window appears. Enter a name for the folder into the Title: text field.

Choose a name that represent the content that the folder will contain. If this folder will contain the content for Learning Module 1, then you might enter “module_01”. Remember, a good organizational strategy and naming convention will save you time and effort in the long run.

NOTE: Avoid spaces in your folder and file names by using an underscore “_” to separate words. Having spaces in folder and file names can cause errors when you attempt to link to their content in your course.

Step 6. Confirm your folder name by pressing the OK button
The content frame refreshes and now displays the folder that you created.

You are now ready to create your own content files in this folder. You may repeat this process to create as many content folders as needed.
