Adolescent Substance Use and Associated Disorders

This two-day workshop covers issues facing adolescents who abuse drugs and/or alcohol and includes: the etiology of substance abusing adolescents, the difference between use, abuse, and dependence, how to assess whether or not an adolescent is abusing substances.

Participants discuss how to assess for related disorders such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-Polar, and depression and how to determine the most effective intervention strategies for the youth and the family. Participants also learn how to apply assessment and intervention strategies to hypothetical cases.
