Parents with Mild Cognitive Impairments

This one-day training focuses on the unique needs of parents with mild cognitive disabilities who are involved in a service system. As a result of the training, participants will be able to define and describe the term, “mild cognitive disabilities; state the ADA legal rationale that requires service providing agencies to accommodate the learning style and needs of these parents; identify their strengths and needs; set goals that are realistic, reasonable and fair; break goals into action steps that allow the parents to demonstrate reasonable progress; plan the learning tasks required to complete the action steps; and to utilize appropriate cognitive behavioral strategies to support the parent in meeting their goals.

Target Audience: Primarily for DHS Caseworkers, Case Managers, and other professionals in the human services field.
