Courtney Cowgill('75) - Treasurer
Courtney Cowgill, CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, has been a Metro State Foundation board member for more than 10 years, serving the last four as treasurer.
She has more than 30 years of business experience, 25 of which have been in senior financial and executive roles including more than eight years as CFO for two public companies headquartered in the Denver metro area. She has served as an auditor with an international “Big 8” accounting firm, internal audit and now consults with public companies in the Front Range on their SEC filings, XBRL and internal control.
Courtney has been very active in the accounting, business and nonprofit community including current service as:
- Board member of CollegeInvest, appointed by then-Governor Bill Ritter
- Officer of the Colorado Chapter Financial Executives International
- Program Committee of the WiseWomen’s Council, a subset of the Women’sVision Foundation
Her past service includes:
- Gubernatorial appointment to the Colorado State Board of Accountancy including the board presidency from July 2009 to October 2010
- Gubernatorial appointment as the CPA representative to the Colorado Lottery Commission, including chairing the Commission
- Chapter and National President of the American Society of Women Accountants
- President of the Colorado Centennial Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants
- Chair of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado Women’s Leadership Coalition and president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Women in Cable & Telecommunications
- Various positions on the Denver Southeast Rotary Board of Directors
- President of the Metro State Alumni Association for two years
Courtney earned a B.S. in accounting from Metro State and an M.S. in telecommunications engineering from the University of Colorado - Boulder. She is one of approximately 25 accountants in Colorado with four certifications: CPA (actively licensed since 1977), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
