Stephen M. Jordan,Ph.D.(Ex-Officio) - President, Metropolitan State College of Denver
In only five years, President Stephen M. Jordan has led Metro State on a rapid trajectory towards becoming the preeminent public urban baccalaureate college in the nation. Under his leadership, Metro State received legislative authorization to offer master’s degrees; established a goal for the College to become a Hispanic Serving Institution, and placed a stronger focus on Metro State’s role as an “urban land grant institution” that is a tremendous resource for the Colorado community. He has also obtained approval for two new buildings: the Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center for the College’s growing Hospitality, Tourism and Events Department and the Metro State Student Success Building to house all student services in one convenient location. With student retention a primary goal, Jordan has increased the number of tenured and tenure-track faculty and established the First Year Success Program, a learning community with support services that will eventually be offered to all incoming freshman.
As president of the NCAA’s Division II Presidents Council in 2009, Jordan spearheaded new rules that will bring a more appropriate balance between athletics and the entire collegiate experience. He also serves on the boards of the Downtown Denver Partnership and the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation. Jordan obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Colorado Denver.
