Learning Communities and First Year Success

The heart of the Metro State First Year Experience

Rowdy the Roadrunner encouraging students to "Be Rowdy and Get Rowdy" for student convocation. Learning Communities

Learning Communities are the bedrock of FYS and are usually formed by the pairing of two General Studies courses (typically, one content-based and one skills-based) that students take together as a group; hence, forming a community of learners.  For example, a Speech Communication course may be linked with a History course. The students who choose to participate in a learning community will take six credits of linked courses together with their peers for the semester, in addition to other general studies courses or courses required by their major.
