First Year Success Learning Communities

First Year Success Learning Communities are the bedrock of the First Year Success program and are usually formed by the pairing of two university courses.  These pairings usually consist of one content based course and one skills based course that students take together as a group; hence, forming a community of learners.  For example, a Speech Communication course may be linked with a History course.  Linked courses provide an opportunity for instructors to link, combine, and present course content in different ways than what traditional courses offer. Students who choose to participate in a learning community will take the total amount of credits of the two linked courses together with their peers for the semester, in addition to other general studies courses or courses required by their major.

To be eligible for a First Year Success Learning Community, you must be a first year student with 15 or fewer credit hours completed.  Students must also have ACT/SAT scores at college level in Reading and English in order to register for any Learning Communities.

Learning Communities read from left to right on the page.   If you see two courses side by side, this means that you must be registered for both courses.

Below is the complete listing of learning communities by days and time.  By clicking on the left general studies options, you may view learning community options by general studies categories.
