Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can I make a gift?
A. You are welcome to make a gift online, by mail or over the phone. Directions for each method are below.

Q. Is my donation tax-deductible?
A. No, your donation is not always fully tax-deductible.

Q. Will I receive a receipt for my gift?
A. Yes. When you donate to MSU Denver in any amount, you will be mailed a receipt from the Development Office as soon as your donation is processed. If you donate online, we will email you a receipt.

Q. How quickly will my donation be processed?
A. Typically donations are processed within a week from when they are received.

Q. Who should I call if I need a duplicate receipt?
A. Please contact the Development Office at 303-556-8424.

Q. May I keep my gift anonymous?
A. Yes. Your personal and payment information is always secure and confidential. And if you wish your gift to remain anonymous, you can do so by indicating your preference on the Make a Gift page or when you mail in your donation.

Q. What is planned giving?
A. Planned giving refers to when a donor chooses to give at some future date, either a number of years from now or at death. For more information on planned giving click here.

Q. What is a matching gift?
A. A matching gift occurs when your or your spouse’s employer matches a donation with an equal or greater amount, thereby increasing your contribution. Matching gifts are credited to the same fund as your original gift, unless you, the donor, request otherwise or the policies of your company prohibit matching gifts to particular funds.

Q. How can I find out if my company will match my gift?
A. You can find out if your or your spouse's employer will match your gift using our Matching Gift Search program here. Or check with the Benefits or Human Resources Office of your employer (or your spouse's employer).

Q. How do I get my company to match my gift?
A. Companies often have many ways of handling matching gift requests. Start first with your with your company's HR department.

Q. Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of someone?
A. Yes. Gifts in memory or in honor of an individual can be made during one’s lifetime or through bequests. Please indicate this preference while making your gift, and include your honoree’s name and family contact information. You can learn more about Tribute and Memorial gifts here.

Q. How do I make a gift of stock?
A. The Metro State Foundation currently has an account with UMB Stock Brokerage Services. To transfer stocks directly from a broker’s account, please contact Jeanne Olson at 303-556-8424.
