An Introduction to the Metro State Foundation
Role and Mission
The Metropolitan State College of Denver Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated to promote the general welfare and development of the College through efforts including strategic planning, fund raising, and program support.
History
The Metro State Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit, direct support organization that receives, invests and administers private support for The Metropolitan State College of Denver.
The Foundation was originally established in 1965 to purchase a house for the first president of the College. In its early years, the Foundation functioned with informal by-laws and meetings "as needed." Following a period of dormancy during the 1970s, the Foundation resurfaced and developed the first set of formal by-laws.
In 1986, the Foundation began to define itself as an organization dedicated to promote the College in the community and to raise funds for College departments and programs. Each successive board has moved the Foundation toward greater prominence in College activities and within the Denver community. As the College has matured, so has the Foundation. Although it began as a board composed primarily of College alumni, the MSCD Foundation has grown to include community leaders, heads of foundations and CEOs from the most prominent businesses in Colorado.
