Don and Katherine Marshall
Retired Regional President, Wells Fargo

Marshalls Long-time Colorado residents Don and Katherine Marshall both attended college on scholarships, so they understand firsthand the impact of scholarships. The Marshalls also know that 75 percent of MSU Denver’s graduates stay in state, contributing to Colorado’s economy, and they regard MSU Denver as a key factor in improving the economic strength of the greater Denver area.

Understanding that 32 percent of MSU Denver students are the first in their families to attend college, they invested in these first-generation scholars by creating the Marshall Family Endowed Scholarship. Remarking on why she gives, Katherine says, “MSU Denver education money is money that really pays dividends. An endowment is easy and flexible—you can make a one-time gift or many gifts over time. The endowment goes into perpetuity. This is our legacy.”

Don, a retired regional president of Wells Fargo Bank and community leader, adds: “Our hope is that by making financial assistance available, more first-generation students will complete their college degrees and be better equipped to improve their lives and the lives in their community and to begin a tradition of college attendance in their families.”
