Planned Gifts
Planned Gifts allow you to retain some aspect of the assets you use to make a gift (such as the right to receive income). There are many ways to make a planned gift to Metro State such as bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, charitable remainder trusts, gifts of real estate and gifts of retirement plan assets.
Once you transfer assets to the College, the Metropolitan State College of Denver Foundation Inc. invests the proceeds from the sale and pays you or your designated beneficiaries an income for life or other specified term.
You determine the structure of your gift: Maybe you prefer the certainty of fixed payments for life, or the income could help you finance your child's college education. The Office of Development will assist you in structuring a planned gift that meets your objectives.
Income-producing planned gifts can enhance your estate by enabling you to increase your income, diversify your holdings, reduce your income and capital gains taxes, and avoid the cost of probate.
Other types of planned gifts enable you to make a gift of real estate (such as your residence or vacation home) and retain the use of it for the rest of your life. You can also place assets in a trust that pays income to the College for a term of years and then passes the assets to your children.
Gifts of Bequest
You may make a gift of cash, securities, real estate or other assets by providing in your will for a bequest to the College. A gift of bequest can be a designated sum or asset, or it can be a percentage of your residuary estate.
The value of your bequest to the College is fully deductible for estate tax purposes. You can also establish an income-producing planned gift for the benefit of others through your will, thereby reducing your taxable estate. Whether given outright or to fund a planned gift, a bequest can be a useful and advantageous addition to your estate plan.
