Guidelines for University Transition
These guidelines were developed by the Name-Change Transition Team to help the University make the transition to a new name and visual identity.
From July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013, we will be in transition from our previous name, Metropolitan State College of Denver, to Metropolitan State University of Denver. “University of Denver” cannot stand by itself in text.
Use this site for guidelines and information about how to transition your office/departmental materials to the new name and logo.
Timeframe and university nomenclature
The name change became effective on July 1, 2012. This means that the institution is now officially Metropolitan State University of Denver. The University’s shortened name is MSU Denver, a moniker that emphasizes the “U” in “university” and our urban location in the city of Denver.
Use of materials with the name Metropolitan State College of Denver is permitted until June 30, 2013, though the preferred name is Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Domain name and email address
As of July 1, our new domain name is msudenver.edu. The deadline for for all departments, divisions and programs to update their web pages with the new name is Dec. 21, 2012.
Our new email address—user@msudenver.edu—will be launched for faculty and staff Outlook Exchange accounts and for student Google accounts on Aug. 6. Prior to that date, emails sent to msudenver.edu will be undeliverable and will not bounce back. Starting Aug. 6, emails sent to @mscd.edu will be redirected to @msudenver.edu through June 30, 2013.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to include a postscript on their emails about the change in email address.
New MSU Denver logo
MSU Denver has refreshed, modernized formal and informal logos and a University seal that reflect the institution’s aspirations for national preeminence. These visual identity elements replace the Mbird, M logos and former college seal.
