Assessment Models - Local Tests
Local tests are developed by an institution to measure their own students’ learning.
Advantages
- Have face validity for institution’s conditions
- Reflect that institution’s culture
- Student effort strong if course-embedded
- Are immediately relevant and useful
Potential Problem
- Sometimes focus on the surface
- Usually don’t have norms for reference
- Test must be piloted to help with ambiguous terms, reliability and validity
- Students may be threatened by them
