Assessment Models - Performances
Performances assess the student in action. They are surprisingly adaptable, and can include a literal performance of an aria or play, teaching a class, performing an experiment, giving a speech, or conducting a therapy session.
Advantages
- Are highly adaptable
- Have strong face validity Emphasize how students apply what they’ve learned
- Provide a way to assess student learning in non-written ways
- Help students assess their own learning and make the discipline’s standards their own
Potential Problems
- Possibly labor-intensive and expensive
- Necessitate clarity on student learning outcomes and rating techniques
- Can be intimidating to students
