25 % of the institutions surveyed have a home for their general studies program

Increasingly, institutions need someone to keep tabs on their general studies program. Often this consists of a person who coordinates the program while the courses are taught in and the faculty are assigned to the various departments. Some institutions have a separate general studies department that has its own courses and faculty. In many of these models, the faculty have a split appointment. In a few, faculty teach general education courses only.
