25 % of the institutions surveyed use learning communities
Learning Communities group students in cohort groups who take classes together. Usually the faculty integrates content. Sometimes the communities live and study together as well.
Types of Learning Communities found in the study include
- Student cohorts – A group of students take separate courses together
- Paired courses – Students enroll in two courses together
- Partially-Integrated Courses – A group of students enroll in two or more courses with some integration in the syllabi
- Fully-Integrated Program – A group of students enroll in an integrated studies program with one syllabus consisting of two or more courses
