General Studies Mission
The General Studies program will encourage the habits of mind of an educated person that promote life-long learning. Students will acquire the essential knowledge and develop the critical skills that are of fundamental significance in a free society.

Departmental Requirements
In addition to meeting the course requirements for General Studies, the HTE core and the HTE concentration, all HTE students must complete the department requirements.
- Maintain a grade point average of 2.50.
- Present Adult CPR and first-aid certification or HPS 2060.
- Demonstrate a basic competence in a foreign language. *
- Present verification of 1,200 clock hours of on-the-job experience in the HTE concentration. These may be secured through paid job experience, internships or a combination of the two.
- Review a CAPP compliance result with an advisor no later than the third semester of enrollment (second semester for transfer students) in the HTE program.
*Competence to be certified by the Modern Language Department or through three- credits of another approved language and earning a grade of “C” or better.
There are also specific general studies requirement for the HTE Department.

**Prerequisite: Complete twelve (12) hours in major concentration, senior standing, completion of all Level I and Level II General Studies university course requirements, including MTH 1210, and approval of the HTE department.
