Student Organizations

Student organizations are a great way for HTE students to network within the industry and to get a better idea of the employment opportunities within a specific field.


Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association Student Chapter

This student organization is affiliated with the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association. The purpose of CHLASC is to offer HTE students opportunities to interact with industry professionals on a local, regional, and national basis for developing their professionalism and for possible contacts for employment opportunities.

Event Elements, a special events club

Meets twice a month:

  • The second Friday, 3:00 – 4:30 pm in HLC 202
  • Typically the 4th week in the month-at various locations and dates.  Check the calendar or web site for more information.

Meeting Calendar:

  • 11/16   Full club meeting –Resume Writing for Event Planners (Career Services, Daniel Weeks)
  • 11/28   Educational meeting offsite – Brown Palace (Michelle Gillette) - Catering
  • 12/8     Holiday party – Brio’s – members only
  • 12/20   Full club meeting –Portfolio Creation (Dawn Abbott)

The club acts as an umbrella for 4 special event associations: Colorado Festivals and Events (CFEA); International Special Events Society (ISES); International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE); and the National Association of Catering and Events (NACE).

The purpose of this club is to create networking opportunities, further education and increase the knowledge base of our students.

Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International

The goal of the HSMAI Student Chapter are to get students, within the hospitality industry into networking opportunities with industry leaders.  We want to do this on both a local and national level. Since we are just starting up the student chapter, and are new to the Metro State campus, we want to learn more about the association and the industry, and encourage other students to attend the meetings of the local chapter, to become involved (to the extent that they are able) with committees and activities, and to attend the HSMAI Annual Meeting as a way to further their education while at the same time meeting and networking with industry leaders from across the United States.

Meeting Professionals International
Rocky Mountain Student Club (MPI-RMSC)

MPI is the largest, international association of planner and supplier professionals in the meeting and events industry.  Student Club members have full membership privileges in the MPI Rocky Mountain Chapter, which consists of meeting and event planners, sales and operations managers from hotels, destination management companies, restaurants and a variety of other area suppliers.  Student Club meetings are scheduled in conjunction with the regular monthly parent chapter educational and networking luncheons, giving students an opportunity to establish and maintain regular contact and participate in committees with practicing professionals, who are a source of potential internship and/or employment opportunities.

Metro State Chapter of the Colorado Restaurant Association

Has a mission of connecting students with industry professionals, and creating opportunities for networking that lead to employment. Activities through the year include dinners with guest speakers at area restaurants, community involvement though volunteer service, and participation in local and state CRA activities. The Colorado Restaurant Association Metro State Chapter officers are:

National Society of Minorities in Hospitality Student Chapter

The NSMH is the premier professional organization for minority hospitality students as it addresses diversity, multiculturalism, and career development of its student members.  The NSMH provides events and programs that bring together college-level students with company sponsors, industry representatives, other hospitality organizations, advisors, and mentors.  With respect to students and education, NSMH aims to be a total resource center, a resource for the industry to find dynamic talent as well as for students to find qualified answers to relevant questions and have a window to the industry that awaits them.

Through the leadership of Professors Gruhl and Moroye, in harmony with Metro State’s drive to become a Hispanic Serving Institution, the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality’s Metro State Student Chapter is now a reality.
