Ever since reading about Amelia Earhart in third grade,
Zaida Gomez-Kuri knew what she wanted to be: a pilot.

As a teen-ager, Zaida moved from Mexico to Denver, and was
excited to learn about the Aviation and Aerospace Science
department at Metro State.

“They have it all here: the flight simulator, industry connections
and great professors.”

A pilot himself, Assistant Professor Jeffrey Price recognized
Zaida’s dedication. “Zaida doesn’t let obstacles get in her way."

Whether it is paying for her own education, taking flying
lessons in her spare time or personally jumpstarting the
discontinued Alpha Eta Rho aviation fraternity, Zaida’s
determination is clear. But she is quick to share the
credit for her success.

“Professor Price has given me the confidence to do
more than I ever thought I could, in school and in life.
He encouraged me to add a physics minor to my degree.
Now I see that it will open a lot of doors for me.”

Zaida also appreciates
the real-world
connections
Metro State
provides. “Our
guest speakers
are all from the
aviation industry
and I have an internship at
DIA that has really opened my eyes.”

Adds Price, “Zaida already has the preparation and professionalism that will take her a long way in aviation.”
