Careers: Medical Anthropology
According to the Society for Medical Anthropology, "medical Anthropology is a subfield of anthropology that draws upon social, cultural, biological and linguistic anthropology to better understand those factors which influence health and well being (broadly defined), the experience and distribution of illness, the prevention and treatment of sickness, healing processes, the social relations of therapy management and the cultural importance and utilization of pluralistic medical systems."

Metro State students may be interested to know that the University of Colorado, Denver offers an M.A. in medical anthropology and a Ph.D. in Health and Behavioral Sciences, "an interdisciplinary degree program presently housed in the Department of Anthropology." According to their web site, "The program features standard classroom training, internship and 'service learning' opportunities, and faculty-guided research. Research opportunities are available in urban Denver, rural Colorado, Bolivia, China (Taiwan and mainland), Russia and Mongolia." More information on the master's program in medical anthropology.
