Getting Started
Visit the Study Abroad Office: By visiting our office you can learn more about what programs are available to Metro State students and discussing your options with a study abroad advisor. Our office can also help you choose the best program to fit your academic and personal goals and walk you through the application process.
Choosing a Program:
The following questions are important in choosing a program:
- When do you want to study abroad?
- What is the duration of the program you would like to attend (short-term, semester, or academic year)?
- What do you want to study? A language in the country of its origin? Continue in your major? Further interest in the areas that would apply to your major, minor, or satisfy electives?
- Will you need financial aid? Are you eligible for financial aid? What is your budget?
- Do you prefer to study in a large city, smaller town, or rural area?
- What are you language skills? Please note that a lack of language skills does not limit your study abroad options.
- Do you want to attend classes with other Americans or do you prefer a more complete immersion into the culture with host-country students?
- What type of housing do you prefer? Do you want to live with a host family, other students from the host-country, or with Americans?
- Do you have enough experience abroad that you might choose to enroll directly in a foreign university?
