About
The Internship Center at Metropolitan State College opened in 1974 as a small, yet innovative program. Over the years, the number of students served has grown significantly. Currently, The Internship Center focuses on three primary programs.
Cooperative Education – Paid jobs with possible credit
The co-op program places students in paid work experiences related to their major. These positions provide hands-on work experience that enhance the students’ job marketability after graduation. The money students earn in these positions can provide significant financial support for their education. Some of these positions are also appropriate for academic credit.
Mentoring Program – Experience with credit working in business and industry
Mentoring internships offer intensive unpaid work experience with a mentor from business or industry. Students earn academic credit in their major or minor under the guidance of established professionals. The mentors provide interns with resume-enhancing experience.
Service Learning – Community and civic engagement in the non-profit sector
Service learning allows students to build work experience and skills while contributing to the community. Students volunteer for service in non-profit and government agencies and earn academic credit. Some students complete a full semester internship in the public sector. Others have the opportunity to perform service learning as part of an academic course.
