Credit Information

Many departments at Metro State College of Denver provide academic credit for internships. In some cases, internships are required. In other cases, internship credit is elective credit. In most cases, academic credit is given by the academic department but administered by The Internship Program. In a few cases, internship credit is administered entirely by the academic department. To find out policies for your major, call 303 556-3290 or click here to ask a question.

All unpaid internships MUST be done for academic credit. Other policies can vary by academic department. Some departments require all internships for credit; others do not allow credit for paid work experience. The Internship Coordinators can advise you on these policies.

Do not register for internship credit without speaking with an Internship Coordinator or the appropriate faculty in your department.

To get academic credit:

  1. If you haven't attended an orientation, call 303 556-3290 and make an appointment with a coordinator. Advise the staff that you already have an internship.
  2. You will need to register on TIP Online so that we can track your credit.
  3. If you have attended an orientation, fill out the "Report and Internship Hire" on TIP Online or e-mail your coordinator for instructions. You will need to pick up the "Application for Academic Credit".

Internship credit shows up on your transcript and in your GPA just like any other credit. Tuition, fees, and financial aid do not distinquish between internship credit and traditional classroom credit.
