Overview of CITI Program Training

The CITI Program from the University of Miami provides comprehensive information and training on the ethics and regulations governing research with human participants. The program is currently used by more than 1100 institutions and facilities around the world.

CITI Program Certificates of Completion are accepted within 3 years from the date of course completion. If you have competed a CITI Program training at another institution within the last three years, it will be accepted for MSU Denver Request for Initial Review.

Available Training Courses for Human Subjects Research

Social & Behavioral Research Investigators:

  • Required for all members of a research team when submitting a Request for Initial Review of social and behavioral research to the MSU Denver Institutional Review Board.
  • Members of the research team include principal investigators, co-investigators, research assistants, and student researchers.

Biomedical Research Investigators

  • Required for all members of a research team when submitting a Request for Initial Review of biomedical research to the MSU Denver Institutional Review Board.
  • Members of the research team include principal investigators, co-investigators, research assistants, and student researchers.

Research with data or laboratory specimens: 

  • Required for all members of a research team when submitting a Request for Initial Review of data or laboratory specimen research to the MSU Denver Institutional Review Board.
  • Members of the research team include principal investigators, co-investigators, research assistants, and student researchers.

IRB Members:

  • Required for all members of the Institutional Review Board

Each of the courses above has required modules and additional modules that are optional. The optional modules are not visible until the user has completed the required modules. Additional CITI Courses That May be of Interest

Responsible Conduct of Research courses for: biomedical, social and behavioral, physical sciences, humanities, engineers, and research administrators.

Good Clinical Practice, one with an FDA focus, and two is regarding clinical trials of investigational drugs and medical devices.

Biosafety and Biosecurity. Twelve different biosafety and biosecurity courses are offered ranging from Intoduction to Biosafety and Biosecurity to OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, Animal Biosafety, and Bioterrorism.

Laboratory Animal Welfare. These courses include IACUC courses and 15 different species-specific courses.

Accessibility

According to the CITI Program website, the course modules are compatible to screen readers. In addition to English, many of the courses are available in the following languages: Chinese, French, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai.
