Expedited Review
The vast majority of research protocols are reviewed through an expedited process. Any research protocol posing more than minimal risk to participants will be reviewed through an expedited or full review process.
When Requests for Review are determined to qualify for expedited review, the IRB Chair assigns one or more reviewers to read and evaluate the Request for Review materials. Each reviewer determines whether the research protocol is approved without modifications, approved with modifications not requiring resubmission, or requires modifications requiring resubmission and second review. The reviewer(s) return their determination to the IRB Chair who sends a letter of determination to the Principal Investigator.
This process takes 2-4 weeks for faculty or student multi-semester research, and 7-10 days for students conducting research for a 1-semester class.
