Chicano Humanities and Arts Council
The Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (CHAC) was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a venue to explore visual, and performance art and promote, and preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts.
The gallery generally offers two shows each month by local visual art exhibits and performances by area musicians, actors, dancers, writers and poets. Popular annual events include the Members Season Opener in January, Santos & Crosses in August, El Dia De Los Muertos in November and our Luminarias de la Guadalupe & Christmas Mercado in December.
CHAC works with teachers in Denver public schools to provide gallery space for cultural art projects and provides informative guided tours of our major events such as 'El Dia de Los Muertos' for school or Senior groups. In addition, we collaborate with many community groups and non-profits to provide gallery space, and share programming and resources.
Our popular “Children's outreach programs provides schools and organizations with an artist that will provide a cultural art project, or a cultural storytelling event.
