Semblance Artist Talk
Sama Alsaibi and Neil Chowdury
6:00 pm, Center for Visual Art
Sama Alshaibi is an artist born in Basra, Iraq to an Iraqi father and Palestinian mother and is now a naturalized US citizen. Alshaibi’s work evokes the language of suffering, displacement, and loss. Chowdhury has an identity that is neither American nor English, nor Indian, but existing in something between these three points of origin and influence, his work points to the unbridgeable chasms of identity shaped by the diasporic experience.
February 28 – March 2, March 7-9, 10*
Kiss Me, Kate
Music and Lyrics by Cole Porter
Eugena Rawls Courtyard Theatre
7:30 pm and *2:30, Tickets $20, $10
Inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, it tells the tale of musical theater actors who were once married and are now performing opposite each other in a Broadway-bound musical version of William Shakespeare's play. Already on poor terms, the pair begin an all-out emotional war mid-performance that threatens the production's success. The only thing keeping the show together are threats from a pair of gangsters, who have come to collect a gambling debt from the show's Lucentio, Bill Calhoun. In classic musical comedy fashion, slapstick madness ensues before everything is resolved.

The Heidi Chronicles
By Wendy Wasserstein
Metro Studio Theatre
7:30 pm & *2:30 pm
Tickets $15, $8
Wasserstein’s play follows Heidi Holland from high school in the 1960s to her career as a successful art historian more than twenty years later. The play's main themes deal with the changing role of women during this time period, describing both Heidi's ardent feminism during the 1970s and her eventual sense of betrayal during the 1980s. Though most of the characters are women, there are two important male characters; Peter Patrone, a gay pediatrician who is arguably Heidi's best friend, and Scoop Rosenbaum, a magazine editor who marries and has many affairs, and with whom Heidi has a tense friendship.
