Annual Awards and Scholarships
The Department of Modern Languages sponsors two awards and three scholarships. They include:
The Fair Language Award: nominations by instructors; by selection of the Department, given to one student from French, German and Spanish anually.
The Grete Nunn Language Award: nominations by instructors; by selection of the Department, given to one student from French, German and Spanish anually; declared minor or major; with six credit hours of 2000 level completed; 3.25 GPA in language, 3.0 GPA overall; also, candidates may be asked to write a brief essay in English on interest in language and future plans.
The Almiro and Olga Lopez Endowed Memorial Scholarship: by selection of the Department, given to one student majoring in Spanish; degree seeking; must be US citizen; renewable; merit based; essays in English and Spanish on selected topics; letter of recommendation; 3.5 GPA, junior status.
The Leonard A. and Anna B. Fair Memorial Scholarship: by selection of the Department, given to one student majoring in Modern Languages or Spanish; must be US citizen and Colorado resident; renewable; merit based; degree seeking, 12 credit hours minimum enrollment; 3.0 GPA, junior status; must have a FASFA on file; preference for incoming Freshmen, applicants whose cultural background reflects the language being studied, from a diverse cultural background, with demonstrated community service or volunteer experience and also seeking a teaching certificate at MSCD.
The Leonard A. and Anna B. Fair Memorial Diversity Scholarship: by selection of the Department, given to one student majoring in Modern Languages or Spanish; must be US citizen and Colorado resident; renewable; merit based; 3.0 GPA, degree seeking, 12 credit hours minimum enrollment; must have a FASFA on file; preference given to students with demonstrated community service or volunteer experience and also seeking a teaching certificate at MSCD.
The Department of Modern Languages was honored to have Professor Jeane D. Fair, founding Chair of the Department of Modern Languages, attend many annual ceremonies.
