Welcome
As you tour our MET web site, you will learn about the faculty, facilities, curriculum, and many other aspects of the department. We welcome you to our Web site.
The MET program area houses three educational components:
- The bachelor of science extended major with a choice of two concentrations.
- Mechanical engineering mechnology minor.
- A developmental bachelor of science extended major in Aerospace Systems Engineering Technology offered through the Individualized Degree Program (IDP).
The Program
The MET program offers the bachelor of science degree Major, which is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC) of ABET, Inc. The educational approach is hands-on with 63 percent of the courses requiring laboratory work in addition to lectures. It is structured with two distinct concentrations: Computer-Aided Manufacturing and Mechanical.
For those majoring in other Metro State majors the MET Program also offers a minor in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
MET students are encouraged to join national organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The ASME student branch hosted a national Human Powered Vehicle competition in May 1998. The SAE sponsors a similar competition called the MiniBaja which the MET students also have competed in.
Students are encouraged to enroll in an internship program through the college’s Internship Center such as Cooperative Education gaining valuable work experience.
The College
Since opening its doors in 1965, Metropolitan State College of Denver has evolved into the largest public, baccalaureate college in the nation and the second largest institution of higher education in the state of Colorado. The college offers Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees - as well as an Individualized Degree Program.
The College’s role and mission is rooted in a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Our graduates praise faculty for their attention to teaching and willingness to help students succeed. According to a 2000 survey of college and university alumni conducted for the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE), our alumni ranked the college Number One in meeting their educational goals. In fact, ninety nine percent of our graduates said Metro State’s programs and curriculum met their educational goals.
