Composing Lengthy E-mail Messages
The default 'session time-out' for MetroConnect is 15 minutes and cannot be changed. If you are composing a lengthy e-mail it is advised that you compose the message in a word processor application, then copy and paste the text into MetroConnect e-mail.

To prevent a 'session time-out' one of the MetroConnect tabs must be clicked within every 15 minutes.

Using MetroConnect with an ISP that uses 'Web Accelerator' Technology
Some dial-up ISP's such as (AOL, Netzero/Juno, Netscape, etc.) use 'Web Accelerator' technology that you must disable for MetroConnect to function properly. See 'WEB ACCELERATOR - Netscape ISP' for more information.

Enabling Outlook to work with MetroConnect
To configure Outlook or Outlook Express you will have to get the name of the SMTP Outgoing Server from your ISP. (If AOL is your ISP you will not be able to use Outlook as your email client because AOL does not use an SMTP server). Configure the SMTP Incoming Server as IMAP and use mail.mscd.edu as the server name. Do not use POP3. See 'Configuring Outlook to work with the new Mail Server ' for more information.

Do Pop-Up Blockers affect MetroConnect?
MetroConnect uses Pop-Up browsers for certain warning messages and E-mail components. If you are having difficulty accessing MetroConnect e-mail from off-campus, pop-up blockers may be the problem. Pop-up blockers should be set to allow pop-ups from mscd.edu. Your system may have several Pop-Up Blockers configured. The most common Pop-Up Blockers are located within browsers, software provided by your ISP, search toolbars, or security centers/suites. See 'Troubleshooting Documents' for more information.
