Sanjurjo’s prior experience, as an educator at both the middle and high school level, has made her insight an integral part of MSU Denver’s Center for Urban Education program. It’s a partnership between MSU Denver professors and Denver Public Schools’ administrators and teachers to prepare aspiring educators for the demands of the urban classroom. The program is centered on providing specialized coursework, raising cultural awareness and completing extensive field experience to gain a holistic and relevant understanding of the world.
The program’s goals are something Sanjurjo, and her faculty partners have a personal passion for. Beyond teaching, she mentors her students by providing them with the extra support they need as well as assisting them through the complicated licensure process.
