Ensemble Requirements for Music Majors
Music majors or minors must participate in the major ensemble for their performance area during each semester of private instruction. In addition all Bachelor of Music (Performance and Composition) and Bachelor of Music Education must participate in the major ensemble for their area during each semester of full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours).
Freshmen and sophomores should register for the MUS 281 ensemble level. Students may register for any additional ensemble in which they are interested.
Major ensembles for the various performance areas are:
- Strings: Symphony Orchestra
- Winds: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band (as assigned)
- Brass: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band (as assigned)
- Percussion: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Concert Band (as assigned)
- Voice: Chorale, Men's Choir, or Women's Choir (as assigned)
- *Guitar: Guitar Ensemble
- *Piano: Accompanying/Piano Ensemble
- Jazz: Jazz Combo/Jazz Ensemble
*Exception: BME choral emphasis majors must enroll in at least eight hours of choral ensembles
