Introduction to Music

Sue Ellison has an eclectic background in music. She has recently performed on hurdy-gurdy, double bell euphonium, over the shoulder horn, helicon, Irish fiddle, and ophicleide. She has been a part of historical bands, early music groups, and has "played" cannons with the Denver Symphony Orchestra and the Denver Municipal Band.

Instrument collecting is her passion and she often demonstrates unusual instruments. The Ellison family has traveled in over fifty countries, soaking in the music, collecting instruments, and searching for recordings. Sue's collection includes instruments such as the serpent, nycleharpa, organistrum, koto, clavichord, viola d’amore, hardanger fiddle, and glass armonica.

Sue has taught continuously since 1977. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

(Sue's daughter Hannah, a MSU Denver graduate, demonstrates Scottish and Irish bagpipes in Sue's Music 1000 classes each semester.)
