Pianist Sara Parkinson has performed widely as a soloist, chamber musician, and vocal collaborator throughout the United States and Switzerland. Equally comfortable with vocal or instrumental collaborations, Sara has performed in concert with the horn section of the Colorado Symphony and in guest recitals at The University of Colorado at Boulder and Metropolitan State University of Denver. She spent a season as chorus master and vocal coach at Emerald City Opera in Steamboat Springs. Her orchestral keyboard experience includes performances with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, and the Cheyenne Symphony. A devoted advocate for new music, Sara recently formed LIRIA DUO with soprano Emily Murdock. They are currently collaborating with American composer Libby Larsen on a definitive recording of songs with recording engineer Adam Abeshouse in New York City.
Sara Parkinson received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with academic honors in her native Iowa and Master of Music in Piano Performance with honors from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Upon graduation, she spent time abroad teaching piano and choir at a private boarding school in Leysin, Switzerland. In 2010, she completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of Colorado-Boulder where she held a full assistantship with duties in both the opera and instrumental departments. Festival appearances include Aspen, Musicorda Chamber Music Festival (MA), and Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. The winner of numerous awards and scholarships, she is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda. Her teachers have included Joseph Kalichstein, Daniel Shapiro, Sergey Schepkin, Victor Rosenbaum, and Anne Epperson. Chamber music coaches have included members of the Guarneri, Muir, and Takács Quartets.
Sara is currently on faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver as vocal coach, group piano instructor and choir accompanist.
