Metro State | North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

A college must be accredited as an institution before it can offer federal financial aid programs, such as Pell grants, and before its courses will be accepted for transfer credit by other colleges and universities. Metropolitan State College of Denver is currently accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), an accrediting unit of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

Accreditation is granted for at most ten years. Metro State had its last comprehensive accreditation visit in March 1997, and the next comprehensive visit will be March 12-14, 2007. The visiting team reviews and evaluates all aspects of an institution, including its formal educational activities, the academic achievement of its students, its governance and administration, resources, financial stability, student services, and relationships with outside constituencies. Prior to the visit, Metro State must send a Self-Study Report to the HLC that documents that Metro State meets the five accreditation criteria, which have been modified since the last review.
