“In furtherance of its role and mission, Metropolitan State College of Denver may offer master’s degree programs that address the needs of its urban service area.”

Since Colorado Governor Bill Ritter
signed HB 1295 in May 2009 authorizing Metro State to offer master’s programs, the College has been working toward offering three master’s degrees:

  • Master of Professional Accountancy
  • Master of Arts in Teaching
  • Master of Social Work

Before the programs can be marketed to potential students, applications accepted or classes taught, they must be approved by the Metro State Board of Trustees and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and authorized by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Once fully approved, the accounting and teacher education programs could begin no sooner than the fall semester of 2010 and the social work program no sooner than the fall semester of 2011.

At this time, it is not anticipated that any additional master's programs will start prior to fall 2012.

Initial information about the proposed programs has been reviewed by the Board of Trustees Academic and Student Affairs Subcommittee. The College will seek final approval from the board at its November 2009 meeting. If board approval is forthcoming, an HLC site visit will take place in early February of 2010.

This web page will be updated as the process progresses.

If you are interested in a specific program, please complete the Contact Information Form. When programs are formally approved, the College will send information and application materials to you. In the meantime, we suggest interested parties review the prerequisites required for the undergraduate programs to have an understanding of what may be required for acceptance into a master’s program.
