NCAA executive to address fall grads

Metropolitan State College of Denver has announced Bernard Franklin, Ph.D. as the speaker for fall 2009 commencement to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13 at the Colorado Convention Center.
President of four colleges before joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 2003, Franklin now serves as its executive vice president. A voluntary association of more than 1,000 member institutions, the NCAA has a national staff of nearly 400. Franklin oversees the largest administrative area of the NCAA, which includes membership and academic affairs, governance, educational affairs, research, and diversity and inclusion. He also assures the effective functioning of the NCAA governance groups.
Franklin previously served as president of Virginia Union University in Richmond; Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, N.C.; and Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, N.C. He is a former member of the NCAA Division II Presidents Council and the Executive Committee. Franklin was inducted into the John McLendon Minority Athletics Administrators Hall of Fame in June 2009.
