METROPOLITAN STATE COLLEGE of DENVER

Bed bugs expert sets up shop in Denver

Denver – Does Denver have a bed bug problem? Probably so, says Metropolitan State College of Denver Assistant Professor of Biology Robert G. Hancock. Though he only arrived in Denver last year, he says he already has students bringing in samples from their own homes. “I had two cases in 15 years in Kentucky,” says Hancock. “I’ve had seven in a six-month span in Denver.”

Hancock has studied, taught about and filmed insects all over the world for more than 20 years.  The filmmaker and medical entomologist’s close-up footage has been featured on network and cable television programs world-wide and his documentary series “Mosquito Man” has been recognized internationally. His film, "Bedbugs of London" recently received an Honorable Mention for macro cinematography from the International Wildlife Film Festival.

As an authority on mosquitoes, bed bugs and other blood sucking insects, Hancock is the author of many scholarly articles on their behavior and physiology.  Prior to coming to Metro State, Hancock was professor of biology for 15 years at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

To learn about his upcoming research of bed bugs in Colorado contact Angelia McGowan at 303-556-5133 or Professor Hancock directly at 303-556-3190 or rhancoc5@mscd.edu.
