Metro State remembers 9/11 with a jazz concert by the Air Force’s Falconaires

WHO/WHAT: Metropolitan State College of Denver presents “Sharing the Freedom: A Concert of Remembrance and Hope,” featuring the Falconaires of the Air Force Academy Band and special guest composer and conductor Chie Imaizumi (pronounced Chee-ay Ee-my-zu-me). The concert will honor veterans and remember the events of 9/11. The event is free and open to the public.

One of the Air Force’s two premier jazz ensembles, the Falconaires, has brought the great sounds of Big Band Jazz to national audiences for more than 50 years. This group of 18 full-time jazz musicians specializes in the best music of the past, present and future by performing traditional and contemporary jazz.

Imaizumi, a native of Japan, is a world-renowned composer, arranger, conductor and pianist. The Falconaires commissioned her to compose “Sharing the Freedom,” which they premiered together at the 2008 Monterey Jazz Festival last September.  

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 11, 2009

TIME: 7 p.m. (Students from Metro State’s Music Department will perform at 6:30.)

WHERE: 9th Street Historic Park, Auraria Campus
