Board of Trustees votes yes on graduate program proposal
The Metropolitan State College of Denver Board of Trustees today voted to authorize President Stephen Jordan to continue the process of researching the feasibility of modifying statutory language to allow Metro State to offer master’s degree programs.

Women’s soccer team advances to Final Four in NCAA Division II
Metropolitan State of College of Denver’s women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division II national semifinals on Sunday with a 1-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The goal was made by junior forward Becca Mays, with an assist by senior midfielder Jaimie Stephenson. The Roadrunners (20-1-3) will face Seattle Pacific University (20-1-2) on Dec. 4 in Pepin Stadium at University of Tampa in Tampa, Fla.

Metro State professors publish landmark textbook on aviation security
On Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists used aviation to commit the largest terrorist attack ever against the United States. At the time, there existed no comprehensive textbook or any undergraduate courses that addressed aviation security practices. Now the first comprehensive textbook on the subject is available.

Metropolitan State College of Denver Associate Professor Cynthia Vannucci is the recipient of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) “Educator of the Year” award. She will be recognized at the 2009 Celebrate PCMA Awards Luncheon on Jan. 12, 2009 in New Orleans.

Metro State honors veterans with flag-raising ceremony
Metropolitan State College of Denver is hosting a flag-raising ceremony on Veteran’s Day to honor men and women who have served their country, or have fought or died in present or past wars. On this day, students serving in any branch of the United States military are encouraged to wear their military regalia and be recognized across campus.

Metro State President Stephen Jordan re-elected chair of NCAA Presidents Council
Metropolitan State College of Denver President Stephen Jordan has been re-elected to a second one-year term as chair of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Presidents Council. He has been a member of the Council since April 2007. His membership extends through the 2010 NCAA Convention "I am honored to continue serving a national organization that recognizes the need to balance the role of the athletics program to serve both the campus and the general public,” says Jordan.

Finding the right formula for the next president of the United States
A special guest lecture by Alvin S. Felzenberg, Ph.D., former 9-11 Commission spokesman and author of The Leaders We Deserved, a survey of American presidents. The title of the lecture is “Presidential Election 2008: What to Look for and What to Avoid in a Presidential Candidate.” As chief spokesman, Felzenberg devised and directed communication strategy and prepared all statements, articles, speeches, press releases and policy statements issued or delivered in the Commission’s name.

Colorado legislature passes in-state tuition bill
More Colorado students will now be eligible for in-state tuition with the passing of Senate Bill 79. The bill allows U.S. citizens who have graduated from a Colorado high school - but who can't prove their parents’ residency status - to be considered residents for the purpose of in-state tuition.

Fourth Annual Wellness TRYathlon
Seniors love soup, lemon and strong-tasting foods, according to Michael Wray, associate professor and director of Hotel, Tourism and Events (HTE) department at Metropolitan State College of Denver. With this in mind, 18 HTE students will prepare and serve a special meal to participants in Metro State’s fourth annual Wellness TRYathlon that is designed to educate Auraria Campus community members on leading a positive and healthy lifestyle. Ultimately, the goal is that participants will then share that knowledge with their colleagues, families and friends.

METRO STATE’S FIRST INNOVATION WEEK FEATURES BEST IDEAS FROM STUDENTS
Thinking outside of the box is the wave of the future for Tyler Gray, an industrial design student who has designed a microwave that is not in the shape of a box. Others are taking their ideas back inside the box. Computer Information Systems major Richard Arbour and Mechanical Engineering Technology major Daimon Fleming have teamed up for a concept called Sign It. The idea enables those working in high-level security industries to log on to their computers by inserting their hand in a concealed box and using sign language.
