Metropolitan State College of Denver and Fort Hays State University establish cooperative MBA agreement

Signing ceremony to launch fast-track graduate admission partnership between Metropolitan State College of Denver and Fort Hays State University (FHSU). Metro State students will now have easier access and options for pursuing their MBA online or on campus in Hays, Kan. to achieve automatic fast-track admission, students must meet a criterion that combines their G.P.A. and GMAT scores. The program will provide a smooth and affordable transition from a BS to an MBA, with a tuition reimbursement option available for teaching in China

Metro State Students Become IRS Special Agents on April 2

It’s no April Fool’s joke, Metropolitan State College of Denver is excited to welcome the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS CI) to campus on Friday, April 2. Twenty-five Metro State students will become IRS special agents in an all-day simulated investigation of real-world fraud case scenarios.

Metro State Math Day 2010

The Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Metropolitan State College of Denver is hosting more than 100 students, representing 14 local high schools, at its 21st annual Math Day competition. This dynamic team-oriented event includes three competitive sessions: algebra and analysis, hands-on challenges and geometry. At the conclusion of the event, winning teams will receive awards.

Comcast Volunteer Partnership Provides Needed Campus Support

Metropolitan State College of Denver faculty, staff and students will join more than 400 local Comcast volunteers in support of the 9th annual Comcast Cares Day on Sat., April 24, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. With state budget changes continuing to squeeze higher education funding, volunteers will rally together to tackle a number of maintenance needs on the Auraria Campus that otherwise may go unattended.

Metro State Welcomes Noodles & Company President and CEO on April 26th

President, Chairman and CEO of Noodles & Company, Kevin Reddy comes to Metro to be honored as the 2nd Annual Executive on Campus and to visit with management students. Mr. Reddy will make a public keynote address and hold a Q&A session during the lunch hour. His presentation focuses on a brief company overview and history of Noodles & Company, challenges and obstacles they face, best practices as a CEO and promoting an entrepreneurial spirit in his organization.

Award-Winning Cold Case Investigator Comes to Campus May 19

Linda Holloway, award-winning former cold case investigator, will provide a “lunch and learn” keynote presentation about her career and recent developments in the use of DNA in homicide investigations. Holloway is most recognized for her instrumental role initiating an expanded DNA testing that ultimately led to the release of Tim Masters, after he served nearly 10 years in prison on murder charges.

Metropolitan State College of Denver received final approval and accreditation last week from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to proceed with the College’s three planned master’s degree programs. Metro State Roller Coaster Classroom

The Center for Math, Science and Environmental Education at Metropolitan State College of Denver enters its 14th year of organizing the Summer Science Institute camp for middle school students 5th through 8th grade. The four two-week camps, June 7 through July 30, explore math and science in fun, exciting ways using hands-on learning in a team-oriented atmosphere on the Auraria Campus. Since the program’s inception more than 2,000 students have completed the camp.

Native Folk Healers Meet Western Medicine 8/6

The second annual Dance of the Flower Medicine – Danza Xochitl Pahtli – community health fair is being held with support from Metropolitan State College of Denver. The weeklong health fair, Aug. 2 – 6, creates a community bridge between traditional healing practices of Mexico to more modern Western forms of medicine. Organizers anticipate more than 400 people present at Friday’s event where the community will take part in medicine demonstrations and visit the educational booths, arts and crafts, food and drink and children’s activities.

U.S. Department of Education provides Student Support Services $1.4 million TRIO grant renewal

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has renewed Metropolitan State College of Denver’s Student Support Services (SSS) program grant totaling $1.4 million. The five-year Federal TRIO grant takes effect Sept. 1, 2010, with funds earmarked for support services.

Continuing a trend that started 12 years ago, enrollment is up at Metropolitan State College of Denver. The college recorded 24,008 students enrolled for the fall 2010 semester, which is a 4.8 percent increase over last fall.

WHAT: Metropolitan State College of Denver School of Business is hosting a “lunch and learn” professional development workshop by economist Art Carden about the global economic impacts of Wal-Mart and social values. The session will cover the growing debate about social organizations, markets and the role of the state. Wal-Mart and its impact on labor markets has been a long-standing, hot-button political issue, with several states and municipalities attempting to pass laws expressly designed to keep Wal-Mart out.
