WHAT:
Metropolitan State College of Denver School of Business is hosting a “lunch and learn” professional development workshop by economist Art Carden about the global economic impacts of Wal-Mart and social values. The session will cover the growing debate about social organizations, markets and the role of the state. Wal-Mart and its impact on labor markets has been a long-standing, hot-button political issue, with several states and municipalities attempting to pass laws expressly designed to keep Wal-Mart out.

WHO:
Art Carden is an assistant professor of economics and business at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.  He holds a Ph.D in economics from Washington University in Saint Louis. He is an Adjunct Fellow with the Independent Institute and a member of the adjunct faculty of the Ludwig von Mises Institute.  He was a Visiting Research Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research in 2008 and 2009. He also blogs regularly at Division of Labour and is a regular contributor to Forbes's commentaries.
