Metropolitan State University of Denver will celebrate a record number of graduates and its most diverse undergraduate class ever—511 students of color, led by 292 Latino students— at Spring Commencement, Sunday, May 19, 9 a.m. on the Auraria Athletic Fields.

Metropolitan State University of Denver 3rd Annual Veterans Graduation Ceremony
Metropolitan State University of Denver is hosting its third annual veterans graduation ceremony featuring disabled veteran, volunteer and medical student Jeremy “Jie Bird” Casey, a 2011 MSU Denver graduate, as the keynote speaker. Veteran graduates will be presented with the official MSU Denver challenge coin commencement medallion, which they are encouraged to wear as part of their graduation regalia at the University’s 2013 Spring Commencement on Sunday, May 19.

Students Volunteer to Train Area Residents in Fire Prevention and Safety
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Fire and Emergency Services students will educate residents of Grace Apartments, a Mercy Housing community, on the primary issues around citizen preparedness. Student volunteers will train residents using basic home-safety tools and strategies such as CPR administration, fire extinguisher usage, exit drills and other basic fire prevention and safety tips.

MSU Denver Students to Pursue White-Collar Criminals as IRS ‘Special Agents’
Metropolitan State University of Denver brings the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation unit (IRS CI) to campus on Friday, April 26, for an investigation workshop. Twenty five MSU Denver students will work with IRS special agents in an all-day simulated investigation of real-world white-collar criminal case scenarios.

With the job market remaining tight in recent years, students are taking a more critical look at their college programs to ensure a strong return on their investment. Established in fall of 2012, Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Sales Certificate Program has grown to more than 60 students for the spring 2013 semester.

Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences is hosting its 26th annual Math Day competition. This event will feature 28 teams from 13 metropolitan-area high schools, approximately 120 local students, who will participate in various one-hour timed math and engineering events.

MSU Denver Sheds Light on Hidden Crime via Social Work Forum
Human trafficking is the third-largest international crime industry, outranked only by the trafficking of drugs and arms, but it remains underreported because the tactics used often turn victims into perpetrators to protect the illegal activity. The United Nations estimates human trafficking to be a $32 billion-a-year industry that traffics more than 2.4 million individuals, 80 percent of whom are women and children as young as 11.

One World, One Water Center presents “Water and the Arts” Feb. 25-26
Metropolitan State University of Denver’s One World, One Water Center for Urban Water Education and Stewardship is hosting its inaugural Water and the Arts symposium. This unique program, which is free and open to the public, combines a variety of art forms, including film, industrial design, sculpture, graffiti, music, stories and poetry to raise awareness of growing water demands and the need for conservation.
