It’s official! Metro State now offers master’s degrees
Metropolitan State College of Denver President Stephen Jordan has received official notification that the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has accredited the College’s three new master’s programs – Master of Art in Teaching, Master of Social Work, Master of Professional Accountancy.
“This marks a significant milestone in the College’s journey to preeminence,” Jordan says. “I want to acknowledge the hard work of so many of our colleagues who shared my vision for Metro State’s evolution. They not only put together the innumerous facets of this initiative – from IT to academics to enrollment – but they did so in the aggressive timeline I had set, without missing a beat in all their many existing responsibilities. This is an exceptionally great day to be a Roadrunner!”
Jordan particularly wanted to acknowledge Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs for Curriculum and Assessment Sheila Thompson, who headed the Master’s Task Force and the chairs of the three departments: Rick Crosser, Ph.D., CPA, accounting; Cynthia Lindquist Ed.D, teacher education; and Virginia Cruz, D.S.W, social work.
“This means more opportunity and options for our students,” says Lindquist. “We already have a fairly large number of post-baccalaureate teacher licensure students, and a master’s degree will make them more marketable with a higher earning potential.”
The accounting and teaching programs will begin in fall 2010 and have a July 30 deadline for completed applications. The social work program will begin in fall 2011, and has an April 1, 2011 deadline for that semester only.
Given the short timeframe between now and the July 30 application deadline, recruitment efforts for the fall will be minimal. However, several hundred potential students who had asked to be contacted when the accreditation came through will be notified.
There is now a main navigation from the College’s website to a landing page about the three new programs.
