Would you like a scholarship with your coffee?

The Dazbog Coffee Shop is set to open in August.

Starting in the fall 2014 and continuing each year, Dazbog Coffee Co. will award an entrepreneurship scholarship to a business student “that will support his/her long-term goal of becoming a business leader.”The scholarship will help defray the cost of tuition, books and fees, and the recipient will also gain “real-world experience and exposure to Dazbog’s business operations and executive leadership,” the company said in a press release.

“We are thrilled to be working with Metro State on such a large-scale community relations effort,” says Leonid Yuffa, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Dazbog Coffee Co. “The goal is to help students discover their passion for business and parlay that into a successful career.”

The scholarship endowment recipient will be selected by Metro State with input from Yuffa and his brother Anatoly, who helped found the company. To be eligible, the student must be a Colorado resident, enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours) and have completed at least 30 credit hours at Metro State. He or she must have a declared minor in entrepreneurship, a declared major in Hospitality Tourism & Events, Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Management, or Marketing, or be in the Master’s of Professional Accountancy program. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a demonstrated financial need.

The Dazbog Coffee Shop under construction in front of the Student Success Building will open in August. A portion of gross sales will support the endowment fund. Also, Dazbog will introduce the “Road Runner” blend of coffee with a portion of its proceeds going towards the scholarship as well.

“Besides bringing their exceptional coffee to Metro State’s campus, Dazbog has laid the groundwork for several ongoing partnerships benefiting our students,” says Metro State President Stephen Jordan. “From scholarships, the Road Runner signature coffee blend, internships and employment opportunities, Dazbog is helping us further our goals to create relevant applied learning opportunities while expanding access for students in need.”
