Goal

To implement a sustainable and transparent process of distributing funding to faculty and staff for various diversity initiatives while building a foundation for accountability in relation to MSU Denver's diversity objectives.

Objectives

• Provide a funding process that includes faculty, staff and administration to review and make recommendations regarding diversity initiative grant proposals.

• Launch a diversity initiatives website to increase communication and accessibility between committee members and the MSU Denver community and to increase transparency and accountability of the funding process.

• Produce evidence of the success and importance of funded initiatives through reports that summarize their activities and outcomes and provide accountability for the resources invested by MSU Denver.

Overview

The Office of Institutional Diversity coordinates the dissemination of funds that are designated to support events and activities that address one or more of the following goals:

• Student Recruitment and Retention

• Improving the Campus Climate

• Fostering Social Awareness of Diversity Issues

• Promoting Activities to Support the President's Goals Related to Institutional Diversity

• Encouraging the Cultural and Academic Enrichment of Campus Community Members

• Increasing Multi-cultural Campus Competencies

Each proposal is rated equitably and that submitted proposals are formatted to match the rating process in the following ways:

• Provides consistency between requests through the limiting of pages, structure for narrative, and requesting needed information for creating accountability reports

• Assists with outlines for quick reference and consistent proposals to allow for quicker group reviews

• Guides Grants group's discussions and prepares applicants for high quality programming and reports

• Fosters an understanding of grant writing among staff and faculty, meeting the institutional goal of increasing funds/resources.

Diversity Initiatives funding awards provide a maximum of $5,000. The process is designed to assure equitable distribution of funds, transparency and accountability for fund use and distribution.
